On July 28, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asad Qaiser, who is on an official visit to our country.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asad Qaiser congratulated Azerbaijan on the liberation of its territories, emphasizing that the people of Pakistan celebrated this victory together with the people of Azerbaijan. He noted that Pakistan has always supported Azerbaijan's position based on international law and Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Mr. Asad Qaiser said he was pleased to attend the first trilateral meeting between the Speakers of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Turkey. Referring to the positive experience of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and the activities of parliamentary friendship groups on both sides, the Speaker said that further expansion of this cooperation would make a positive contribution to the development of relations between our countries. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan also noted the active participation of Azerbaijan in the Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for his sincere congratulations. Referring to the meeting of the foreign ministers of the three countries in Islamabad earlier this year, he stressed that the trilateral meetings have made a significant contribution to the development of relations between the fraternal countries. He noted that Azerbaijan supports the settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir issue in accordance with the norms and principles of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The Minister noted that during the visit the delegation of the National Assembly of Pakistan will have the opportunity to visit Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, and to get acquainted with the situation there and, in general, the scale of the destruction in the liberated areas. The Minister briefed the opposite side on the current post-conflict phase, the threat of landmines in the liberated areas, the ongoing restoration and reconstruction work. Stressing that Armenia is still demonstrating a destructive position, the Minister condemned Armenia's recent attempts to aggravate the situation in the border area and stated that it is necessary for Armenia to abandon provocations and start negotiations on delimitation of the border between the two countries, which is important from the point of view of ensuring peace and security in the region.

The sides also exchanged views on the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan in economic, trade, humanitarian, energy, transport, and other fields. During the meeting, issues of regional security and climate change were also discussed.
