Azerbaijani movie night was organized as part of the International Film Festival in Sofia
On 29 January, an Azerbaijani movie night was organized as part of the 17th MENAR International Film Festival in Sofia. In the event, organized with the active support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria, a feature movie presented by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as a documentary film dedicated to the January 20 tragedy was screened.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov emphasized that the 20 January tragedy is both a sad and glorious page in Azerbaijani history, that the Soviet empire could not break the will of the Azerbaijani people for independence, and that the 20 January events were the path to Azerbaijan's national independence. He also noted that it was precisely as a result of the courageous political will of the national leader Heydar Aliyev that the necessary political and legal assessment was given to the 20 January tragedy.
The event was attended by Bulgarian state officials, local socio-political, scientific and cultural figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps, journalists, as well as representatives of the Azerbaijani community.
